Spring is here!

The first day of Spring- March 20, 2013!  In Jackson, it is snowing which is typical weather in March. It is a bit harder to see signs of spring when living in the mountains. Tulips, daffodils, and lilacs are a long ways off. Even so, changes are occurring. Bears have been seen for about a week so bear spray is needed when touring. Grouse sleep in snow- Grand Teton National Park

The photo was taken in Grand Teton Park and shows how a grouse slept in the snow for warmth. The top hole is where the animal plunged into the snow. You can see the wing marks. Nature Update: Porcupine tracks in the snow

January 9, 2013

While touring last week, we saw a clear porcupine track.  Couldn't find the animal but it did travel through mixed conifers. Porcupines drag their bellies through the snow and walk pigeon-toed.  Temperatures were quite cold in the valley so we toured on Teton Pass and enjoyed a nice temperature inversion.
