March: BIGGEST winter on record in Jackson Hole! RAY of spring arrives to valley

April 6, 2017

Spring arrives on March 20 with blue skies, rain drops, Red Tail Hawks, Great Blue Herons and a deep snowpack.  Winter 2016-17 in Jackson Hole left the deepest snowpack ever in the mountains and town broke the record for total precipitation. Bottom line, this was a BIG winter.  If you visited, you know this. If not, it is hard to imagine.  I travelled in … [Read more...] about March: BIGGEST winter on record in Jackson Hole! February: wettest February on record in Jackson Hole!

March 5, 2017

Wow, what a month! Mother Nature and Old Man Winter have whipped and raged through the valley. Winter storms, driving rain, wind, and snow, more snow. All plant eaters: moose, deer, bison, pronghorn, bighorn sheep are stressed. All carrion eaters and scavengers: wolves, lions, coyotes, eagles, ravens, magpies are dancing the happy dance. By the first week … [Read more...] about February: wettest February on record in Jackson Hole!

January: Record snowfall in Jackson Hole! Old man winter descends on valley with feet of snow! RAY of white

February 5, 2017

Winter 2017 shapes up to be a big one.  Snowbanks tower in town. Winds howl. Snow blows. Old man winter descends on Jackson Hole. Once the snow started to fall in December, it … [Read more...] about January: Record snowfall in Jackson Hole! Old man winter descends on valley with feet of snow! RAY of white

December: Stormy weather makes Jackson Hole skiers happy

January 5, 2017

The month of December began and winter arrived. The 60 degree November temperatures felt like a distant past.  The month started with a punch and the winter weather closed roads, caused avalanches, accumulated feet of snow and made happy skiers and winter recreationists. You can see by my record below in the “what’s in the woods” section that stormy … [Read more...] about December: Stormy weather makes Jackson Hole skiers happy

Nature News: November

December 1, 2016

November in Jackson Hole has been a dry month. We received early snow in October but it mostly melted. Four inches of snow fell on November 17 but sun and warmer temperatures dominated the month. I can’t really complain with 50 degree temperatures but we are ski town so snow in November keeps the anxiety level low. Both ski resorts, Jackson Hole Mountain … [Read more...] about Nature News: November
